These Italian Directoire Style Cabinets, based upon the French, is transitional between the Louis XVI and the Empire. It is noted for its straight clean lines and Greco-Roman artistic influences. These cabinets are left and right facing and are painted in antique red with ivory and dark green accents. They have tapered legs and canted angles which are trademarks of the style. Decorating the single, chicken wire, flat framed door is a large central "X", painted ivory, which is mitered directly into the frame. This is highlighted with a bold raised star at its center. The door is operated by an antique finished period key and escutcheon. -
The sides have a raised moulding painted ivory which frames the laurel leaf and center floral medallion motif painted in shades of gray. -
The top also has a central panel outlined with the same green and cream and the same laurel leaf and medallion motif. - The interior of the cabinet is painted ivory and has one shelf with a scalloped edge outlined in the same dark green.
