A LITTLE BACKGROUND: The maker of these fine table products is XOCHI. This name was derived from Xochiquetzal, the Zapotec Indian goddess of agriculture and weavers. Xochiquetzal was also the divinity of painters, embroiders, silversmiths and sculptors. Above is a 16th century image of Xochiquetzal as illustrated in the Codex Ríos which is held in the Vatican Library. The Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies Inc. (FAMSI) was created in 1993 to foster increased understanding of ancient Mesoamerican cultures. The Foundation aims to assist and promote Projects in the disciplines such as anthropology, archaeology, art history, epigraphy, ethnography, ethno-history, and linguistics, to name a few.
