The March Brown Fly represents the two different insects that are commonly given the same name: the March Brown (Rhithrogena morrisoni) and the Late (or False) March Brown (Ecdyonurius Venosus). March Browns tend to hatch of the new season, from mid February and continue into May. March Brown hatches are found on local rivers when water temperatures start reaching 42 degrees consistently. The March Brown likes large stony rivers just like stoneflies. Hatching March Browns can create some very exciting Trout fishing for you as the hatch starts early and continues until late evening. THE COLOR OF FLIES: Your selection of a fishing fly is largely dependent upon the water in which you are fishing. Many believe it is good to match the overall color of the riverbed to you fly of choice.
For example, a brown river calls for a dark brown or black fly. Rivers that flow off bare rock often run clear with a blue or green cast would call for a fly of similar coloring such as a Green Highlander. Brighter flies are used on a cold day in the early spring and late autumn. However, other lore says to use a local fishermen’s recommendation as he knows his waters best.
We say try the whole lot and see what works best for you. The sames goes for your pillow selection. Grouping a few together is sure to make a nice focal point in your seating area.
